Hope to have some news for your and Allen: The 'Enable encrypted filenames' option is only available when you create a new encrypted folder (not in the regular 'Preferences' of BoxCryptor). If you want to change the filename encryption on an already existing encrypted folder, you can use BoxCryptor Control (see ). Then you will see the filename encryption option when you create a _new_ encrypted folder. So I searched the web how to add an encryption layer myself without sacrifying many of the great features Dropbox offers (as TrueCrypt does). Etc.So after several days of investigation, I came to the conclusion that Dropbox is still my favorite cloud storage provider – even without encryption.
One has a crappy GUI, another syncs crappy, the third has a crappy (or no) web interface and yet another has no versioning feature etc. I have tried ALL Dropbox competitors (which existed at that time) and I didn’t like any of them. After downloading these files to a folder, you can open it with BoxCryptor Portable and access the downloaded files in plaintext. Tip: If you use a foreign computer and only need access to one (or a few) specific encrypted files, you can download these encrypted files from Dropbox’ web interface together with configuration file located in the root of your encrypted folder. The most important improvement is the availability of BoxCryptor Portable! Because the integration as a virtual drive requires to install a virtual file system driver, the Portable version is a seperate program and works a little bit different. In this version some bugs (nothing to worry about) have been fixed and BoxCryptor now supports files larger than 2 GB. In response to the latest security issue of Dropbox (e.g., and ), we have just released the official 1.0 version of BoxCryptor.
